About CUST

Central University of Science and Technology is an independent, research-intensive university dedicated to advancing science, engineering and technology for the public good.

Established in 1968 on the shores of Meridian Bay, CUST began as a small polytechnic institute serving the growing industrial corridor of the Northgate District. Over five decades it has grown into a comprehensive technological university with five schools, thirty-eight research centres, and a community drawn from more than seventy countries.

Our mission

We educate principled, creative problem-solvers; we generate knowledge that expands the frontiers of science and technology; and we partner with industry, government and communities to translate discovery into impact. Our work is guided by three commitments: rigour in scholarship, openness in collaboration, and responsibility to society.

Our values

  • Curiosity — we ask hard questions and follow the evidence.
  • Integrity — we hold ourselves to the highest academic and ethical standards.
  • Inclusion — talent is global; opportunity should be too.
  • Impact — research should improve lives, not only publications.

Leadership

The university is led by President Dr. Amara Tunde, supported by Provost Dr. Henrik Vasquez and a Council of Governors comprising academic leaders, alumni and external members. The President’s Office reports to an independent Board of Trustees that oversees the long-term stewardship of the institution.

Campus

The main Meridian Bay campus spans 84 hectares and houses teaching laboratories, the Aldermere Science Library, the Innovation Commons, student residences for 4,500 students, and a public observatory. A second teaching site, the Northgate Technology Park, hosts the university’s engineering pilot plants and industry incubator.

Accreditation

CUST programs are reviewed under the university’s internal quality framework and benchmarked against international engineering and computing accreditation criteria. Degree awards are conferred under the authority of the CUST Senate.
